Ficus Elastica ‘Robusta’ is native to the central Asian tropics and a fast grower throughout the summer months, while not growing much during winter. Being a tree, this houseplant can reach your ceiling within several years when grown in a pot. You can easily grow it outside during the warmer months, as long as temperatures do not drop below 4° Celsius at night. If moving your variegated rubber tree from your home to outdoors, it is important to let them adapt to the much brighter light outside. Put them in a shady spot, because otherwise they might get a nasty sunburn!
The Ficus Elastica ‘Robusta’ prefers to be pot bound with the top roots exposed. Repot only when needed in spring and water sparingly through winter months. Ficus are particularly sensitive to environmental changes, so find a bright space with minimal direct sun and let the Ficus enjoy its new home.
