Dracaena Moonshine, also formerly known as Sansevieria, is a snake plant with very pale green, almost silver-like leaves with dark green margins. It’s a great for beginners plant, requiring very little maintenance.

Common names for Sansevieria include Mother-In-Law’s Tongue or Snake Plant. These plants are now part of the genus Dracaena due to further research in to their genetics. Sansevieria stand out with their stiff, upright leaves. Those come in different shapes or forms, but always have an architecutrally pleasing look to them. That’s why they are a great natural choice for modern and contemporary interior designs.

Dracaena Moonshine is rather slow-growing, however it can reach an impressive size compared to other members of the genus. Its leaves have a very beautiful marbled silver variegation. It’s a great plant for beginners, requiring very little maintenance.

Dracaena Moonshine is a super easy houseplant with strong air-purifying properties. Sansevieria is particularly good at removing toxins such as formaldehyde and benzene from the air. These houseplants are unique in that they perform a specific type of photosynthesis at night, which allows them to also release oxygen throughout the night. In contrast, most other plants that release oxygen only during the day and carbodioxide during the night.

Easy care

If you are a new plant parent or looking for an easy-care houseplant, Dracaena Moonshine is the right plant for you! Snake plants are very hard to kill, because they will adapt to a wide range of growing conditions. Although they will do best in bright indirect sunlight, they will survive even in very low light. In darker conditions, they will need less water and grow much more slowly.

Snake plants are native to the arid deserts of West Africa. That’s why they do not require much water, especially in the winter. Sansevieria like to dry out completely between wateringt. So, make sure Dracaena Moonshine‘s soil is thoroughly dry before watering it again! The most common mistake with these houseplants is overwatering. Due to the fleshiness of the leaves, this can easily lead to root and stem rot.

Size

This plant is about 40cm tall and comes in a plastic nursery pot 12 cm big in diameter.

Light

Bright indirect light, protect from direct sunlight and drafts. Can tolerate low light but leaves loose their best colour in too much shade.

Water

Keep the soil moist during the growing season but never waterlogged. Reduce watering from fall to winter. Mist often and give it an occasional shower to remove dust.
