Description

Begonia Lucerna, also known as Corallina de Lucerna or Angel Wing Begonia, is known for its dramatic olive green leaves that look like angel’s or bat wings and silver dots. The bottom of the leaf is dark red what makes the plant even more picturesque. The flowers appear in large clusters that hang from the stems. It was hybridised in 1892 by Wettstein of Lucerne, Switzerland.  Begonia Lucerna is one of the most picturesque plants!

Begonia Lucerna can grow up to 2m in height and produces pink flowers from late winter throughout spring. Begonia is highly susceptible to root rot, therefore you should always be careful to not overwater it. Also, when watering it, pour water directly onto the soil, ensuring the leaves remain dry.

If you’re a Begonia fan, we also have the wonderful Begonia Tamaya, Begonia Maculata and Begonia Venosa in store.

Size

The plant is approximately 25cm tall and it comes in a 12cm plastic nursery pot. Pair it with Violaine Toth cosmos planter or NAHK blue planter.

Begonia Care Tips

To read more about this genus and for more tips on how to grow them please go here.

Light

bright, indirect light, no direct sunlight

Water

keep the soil moist but not soggy wet

Temperatures

Most Begonia like it warm. Keep them in temperatures between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius.

Humidity

Most Begonia will do well in moderate humidity. However, especially the tropical species we sell might require very high humidity (75%+) to survive and thrive. If this is the case, it will be mentioned in the product description.

Soil

Keep your Begonia in moisture-retentive, but fast-draining soil. It should be slightly acidic – adding clay, loam or sand can help with that. Especially the more tropical Begonia like soil-less medium such as sphagnum moss.

Toxicity

Begonia are toxic to animals if ingested.
