Description

Scindapsus Pictus Silvery Ann has gorgeous, matte green foliage with silver splashes. Although the leaves look similar other varieties, Silvery Ann‘s leaves are much more silver, with leaves sometimes even being entirely silver. This features makes the Scindapsus Silvery Ann a very desirable houseplant, which is also suitable for beginners!

Also known as Satin Pothos, Scindapsus are part of the Aracae family. Scindapsus Silvery Ann is part of the Pictus sub-genus, together with two other varieties: Exotica and Argyraeus. Despite many common names it is not a Pothos nor a Philodendron. However, just like its Aroid siblings, it is also a very hardy plant.

Scindapsus Pictus Silvery Ann is a species of plant native to warm and humid regions of Sumatra, Sulawesi, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, and Java where it grows as an epiphyte.

Care

Scindapsus Pictus Silvery Ann is a great plant to grow in hanging basket. Yet, if you want your plant to really achieve its full potential and grow large leaves, try letting it climb something like our brass plant support instead. The key here is providing the plant with a climbing surface made from organic matter. This allows the plant to grow its roots into the pole – and only then can the leaves can reach a truly impressive size!

Scindapsus Pictus Silvery Ann is an easy-to-grow plant that can adapt to very different conditions! It will thrive in bright indirect light, but can tolerate lower light environments. Use well-draining soil such as our Aroid potting mix. Only water it only when the top 3cm of the soil feel dry to the touch. This plant is very good at communicating its needs, so its leaves will start to curl when it’s really thirsty!

Fun fact: Each variety of Scindapsus Pictus has the ability to suddenly produce a leaf that will look like another cultivar. We have come across ‘Silvery Ann’ producing ‘Argyraeus’ leaves, and ‘Silver Splash’ suddenly growing an ‘Exotica’ patterned leaf, so don’t say this genus isn’t full of surprises!

Scindapsus Care Tips

Light

Scindapsus thrive best in medium to bright indirect light, but will tolerate much lower light conditions. However, be aware that loo little light might cause the leaves to lose their beautiful variegation. Do not expose your Scindapsus to direct light, which might scorch its leaves.

Water

Water thoroughly when the top half of the soil is dry to the touch. Scindapsus can tolerate underwatering, but are much less tolerant of overwatering, so make sure not to water it too much or it will wilt easily. Always remove excess water from the saucer to avoid the plant sitting in water. If the leaves of your Scindapsus start curling on both sides, you have underwatered your plant.

Humidity

Scindapsus are tropical plants, so they will appreciate high humidity and reward you with more growth. However, they make for such great houseplants because they do not require it to thrive. Moderate humidity of 40-50% is just fine for most Scindapsus.

Temperature

Scindapsus, being tropical plants, prefer temperatures of no lower than 18 and no higher than 28 degrees Celsius. Ideally, they should be grown in usual household temperatures.

Soil

Scindapsus love growing in a very well-draining, loose substrate, such as our Aroid Potting Mix, which was developed specifically for plants in the Aroid family. If you prefer mixing soil yourself, we recommend a mix of 1/3 bark, 1/3 perlite and 1/3 coco coir.

Fertiliser

During the growing season, feed your Scindapsus regularly with a liquid fertiliser suitable for houseplants. Do not fertilise your plant during the colder months unless you supplement with grow lights.

Toxicity

Scindapsus are toxic to pets and humans when ingested.
