Description
Philodendron Verrucosum is one of the most spectacular philodendron’s out there! It has iridescent deep green velvety leaves with bright veins, red back and hairy stems. The leaves look like crushed velvet and are simply stunning!
Philodendron Verrucosum is native to Ecuador. There are quite a few different varieties out there, which vary in veining, colour and leaf size. The most commonly sold variety is called ‘Incensi’, which we sell here, too.
Philodendron Verrucosum is relatively fussy, but very rewarding once you have figured out its needs! This houseplant requires precise attention to humidity, which needs to be relatively high. However, a healthy Philodendron Verrucosum will grow quickly and turn your space into a beautiful green jungle in no time.
Make sure you plant your Philodendron Verrucosum in an airy potting mix, like our Aroid Potting Mix, which we developed specifically for this plant family. If you decide to make a potting mix yourself, it should consist of bark, perlite, and peat moss.
Fun fact: In the Greek language ‘Philo’ means ‘love’ and ‘Dendron’ means ‘tree hugger’, describing the natural disposition of almost all Philodendrons to climb up trees.
Size
This plant is about 10 cm tall and comes in a plastic pot of 6cm in diameter.

Philodendron Care Tips
Light
Philodendrons thrive in medium to bright indirect light, but will tolerate darker spots as well.
Soil
Use a well-draining potting mix, such as our Aroid Potting Mix, ideally containing some coco coir, bark and perlite. You can also grow Philodendrons in soil-less mixes like sphagnum moss and perlite or hydroponics.
Water
Philodendrons like their soil to dry between waterings. Water when the top 3cm of soil are totally dry to the touch.
Humidity
Most Philodendron, especially the Erubesecens varieties, will thrive in average humidity. However, some of the more tropical and velvety species will require higher humidity to survive.
Toxicity
All Philodendron are toxic to humans and animals if ingested.
