Maranta Leuconeura var. kerchoveana ‘Variegata’ also known as Maranta ‘Beauty Kim’ or The Prayer Plant, is a native to Brazil hardy tropical plant. Known for its striking foliage and no-fuss personality, it makes a great plant for a beginner. The Leaves of Maranta Leuconeura kerchoveana ‘Variegata’ are truly beautiful! The oval leaves are a medium green with grey green shading in the middle and two rows of chocolate blotches on each side. Each is flushed with white to yellow spots of variegation.
Maranta Leuconeura var. kerchoveana ‘Variegata’ is known for doing a little ‘dance’ throughout the day, meaning you’ll see the leaves laying flat during the day and closing upwards at night as if in a prayer. This behaviour is called nyctinasty, and it happens as a response to changes in the sunlight. Maranta is a great plant to grow in a hanging basket as she’ll grow wide and low from it.
As mentioned before, Maranta Leuconeura var. kerchoveana ‘Variegata’ is a really easy going plant. Despite being in the same family with Calathea’s, she won’t require as much humidity and will tolerate low light.
Added bonus: Maranta Beauty Kim is not poisonous which means it’s pet friendly (non toxic to cats and dogs).
