Description

Maranta Leuconeura var. erythroneura, commonly known as Maranta Tricolor or The Prayer Plant, is a native to Brazil hardy tropical plant. Known for its striking foliage and no-fuss personality, it makes a great plant for a beginner. The Leaves of Maranta Leuconeura are truly beautiful! Each is adorned with a bright stripe going down the middle and reddish veins. Also, you’ll notice that the undersides of the leaves are red too.

Maranta Leuconeura’s is known for doing a little ‘dance’ throughout the day, meaning you’ll see the leaves laying flat during the day and closing upwards at night as if in a prayer. This behaviour is called nyctinasty, and it happens as a response to changes in the sunlight. Maranta is a great plant to grow in a hanging basket as she’ll grow wide and low from it.

As mentioned before, Maranta Leuconeura is a really easy going plant. Despite being in the same family with Calathea’s, she won’t require as much humidity and will tolerate low light.

Added bonus: Maranta is not poisonous which means it’s pet friendly (non toxic to cats and dogs).

Pair it with Violaine Toth planter, Fóbe or NAHK ceramics.

Size: plant is 20-30cm tall and it comes in a 12cm pot.

Care Tips:

Light: bright, indirect light

Water: generously in spring/summer, much less in autumn/winter, water should be room temperature

Humidity: Above average

Soil: well draining
