Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Cebu Blue’ also known as Blue Philodendron is a very unique and interesting plant.  It is an aroid and is a part of the Araceae family of plants.  Found originally on Cebu Island in the Philippines, this plant can now be found in areas of Asia, Central and South America.

What makes Epipremnum pinnatum so special, is that the juvenile plant looks completely different than the mature adult plant.  The leaves of the young plant are elongated and have a blue/silver color to them, whereas the leaves of the adult plant resemble more of a palm frond with pinnatifid or divided leaves almost to the midrib. There can be a range of different colors on the same plant from green, to blue, to silver. Light levels can influence the color of the foliage. The last picture is an example picture of the mature plant.

When given a moss stick to climb, the leaves can reach impressive size. This plant comes in two sizes: M and L.

M comes in a plastic nursery pot that is ca 12cm. The plant can be expected to be between 15-25cm long.

L comes in plastic nursery pot that is ca 15cm. The plant can be expected to be between 25-35cm long.

Care Tips

Sunlight

Medium light but can tolerate low light. Avoid too much direct sun. Dappled sunlight is ideal.  Can withstand 3 hours of direct sunlight.

Water

Once weekly. Allow potting mix to dry out before watering. Soil about 3,5cm down should be dry to touch. Water more frequently during warmer months and fertilize during growth season.  Generally, the plant will droop to show that it needs more water. Do not overwater or keep the soil wet for too long, as this will encourage root rot. If leaves are yellowing due to overwatering, skip a week or two of watering.

Humidity

Normal.

Temperature

18°C-30°C. It’s best not to let it go below 15°C.
